As much as I wish it was, the title is not some sort of cryptic mysterious message to the world about the state of my mind or feelings toward government. I simply began the mix with the track The End by Eric Prydz who, according to a rumor, might be playing at Coachella 2011 which would tip the scales 90% in favor of me going just to see him.

The music in this mix are my favorite tracks from late; more trance-leaning than my usual style but that’s where my head’s been at lately. Definitely been getting more into the sound that DJ Eco favors – more melodic but psychedelic tracks with reminders of Pink Floyd or Radiohead. The track On a Good Metropolis Day is somewhat overplayed at this point but I chose to include it just because it’s so damn good and because I wanted to have a record of it as a personal favorite. Although it began playing last summer, it didn’t get released until just now. That’s right – the electronic music industry is milking their releases just like regular music people do. Very interesting. Another favorite on there is Armin’s Gaia – Aisha. The trance top 1000 just came out and Tuvan came in at #7 but I think Aisha is much much better. I guess time will tell since this poll was JUST conducted. Also on there is a track by Arty which is simply amazing – my comrade from Russia is blowing up fast and I’m happy for him.

Hope you enjoy the mix; expect more posts from me soon.

Finally got mixcloud to work; when it first started, uploading a mix took forever because their servers were in China or something. But now it’s all good, uploads quickly, tags well, and plays well. So here’s my 2010 September mix of my favorite trance tracks of the summer. I know I definitely broke some cardinal rules of repeating producers but what can I say? Ferry and Armin killed it this summer with some top notch work!

Hope I have time to make more mixes soon.

The photo is from EDC at main stage #2. I think Basement Jaxx were on.

Hidey ho raverinos – I’m back with another entry in my Beat Connection series. This first series represents my mastering of my mixing style – going from house to progressive to trance in one flowing, seamless mix. I think this one is my best work yet, and I hope you agree. Please download my mix and give it a listen on your computer, or stick it on your iPod and bump it in the car. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

On this mix are, as usual, plenty of tracks from my favorite producers. It starts out in a party mood with some Afrojack, Swedish House Mafia, and Kaskade; The mix then gets dark, techy, and progressive with some of my favorite producers of all time – Sander van Doorn and Jerome Isma-Ae as well as a great Tydi track (the guy is my age and dominating the charts, especially in Australia. Very impressive!). Mixed in there are a couple of remixes from Michael Woods, who has been a rising star lately. I look forward to hearing more from him; he’s got a nice housey trancey sound, which is certainly to my liking. After that things pick up and dive right into the trance world with a couple of fantastic tracks by comrade Anton Firtich and Markus Schulz, who threw down an epic set on my birthday at Avalon. After that comes a track that I’ve been playing on repeat for months – Daniel Kandi’s “Flashy Tribute” remix of Remember Me. In an ASOT interview, Kandi said he was doing tribute to the Flashover/Ferry Corsten sound and I think he nailed it. This track totally reminds me of one my top tracks ever – Ferry Corsten’s Beautiful. Another amazing job by Daniel Kandi. To round things out, I have included some AMAZING melodic tracks from M.I.K.E. and Mat Zo, rounded out with a Tiesto remix of one of my favorite tracks of all time (Just Be), and finally an epic tech-trance banger from Ummet Ozcgan at the very end.

In the spirit of EDC, there are tracks from Afrojack, Swedish House Mafia, and Kaskade. I can guarantee with 90% certainty that Armin will drop Trinity at some point (or I sure hope he does) as well. Download and enjoy!

Please leave comments if you think there’s something I can do better or if you liked the mix.

Happy summer everybody! The work week has started in full force and the three day weekend is over but I am still here thinking about all the good times that took place in the past few days. Celebrated mine and my girlfriend’s birthday, said goodbye to a good friend moving back up north, and of course partied all night with my good friends at the Avalon with Markus Schulz, who played an incredible set.

I decided to step it up a notch and get a limo for us on Sunday night (technically Monday morning since it picked us up at midnight) and thus the idea for a limo mix immediately sprang into my head. This mix teeters back and forth between hip hop and clubby house music, while taking dips into progressive and electro sounds. You should be familiar with the majority of the tracks; they are mixed together well and so I think this mix would be great to throw on in a limo or while pre-partying for a night on the town.

Not my usual sound, not part of my series, just some good ol’ fashioned pop party music.

New Mix – Best of 2009

I know, this is way too late, but I figured I would post it anyway because I worked pretty hard on it. This mix was planned in December but then New Year’s came around and then I had to move to a new apartment and hunt for jobs. Excuses excuses…

These are the tracks which I liked the most in 2009. There were a few others that made the top list for me that just didn’t properly fit into the mix but this tracklist is definitely a good summary of my 2009. As you can see, a lot of tech influences, not too many vocals, and a lot of progressive stuff. It was a little bit hard to look back to the beginning of 2009 and remember what I was into then – music just moves so quickly these days. About 30 new tracks a week in the trance world makes it extremely difficult to keep up with current music, so remembering the past is even harder. But it’s always nice to look back and remember the songs that were stuck in my head for weeks during the year.

These tracks are definitely in a disagreement with Armin’s ASOT top 20 of 2009, which is a little bit unusual for me. But I think 2009 marks the year where I finally let go of my DJ-god-worshipping (a common ailment in the trance community) and developed somewhat of my own sound, which feels very good. Of course all of the tracks I put in my mix were played by a top DJ at one time or another but this set feels like it belongs to me, not Armin or Markus or some other big DJ. I hope you enjoy -

Just mixed this one, clocking in a little over 90 minutes. It is a lot of work getting a 90 min mix together, I realized, and doing it flawlessly in one go. But I was able to do it and I am overall getting much better at making these mixes. Feels good. Before I used to wonder how all the big DJs could travel the world flawlessly mixing every night (minus a few mistakes here and there of course) but now I understand that after while it’s almost like muscle memory.

Anyway here is my newest mix. Like always it starts with house, goes into a little tech/progressive, then blows up into trance and finishes off strong. I’ve got a couple of remixes of Ferry Corsten’s latest album including one by Markus Schulz followed by a remix of Markus Schulz’s Dakota track. It’s all gone crazy! I’ve also got the new Tiesto, Sander van Doorn, and Laidback Luke and I just had to drop that new Eric Prydz mix that was in Kiran’s Monster Massive video – the man is a genius!!!

Also you can expect tracks from Steve Angello, Fedde Le Grand, Josh Gabriel, one of my favorite house producers – Kurd Maverick, and more!

This mix also features my first mashup! It’s between Spencer and Hill and Laidback Luke. I made it in Traktor and it took me about 20 tries to get it right. In the future I will try to do it using a legitimate production software but for my first try I’d say it’s pretty good! I’m calling it a Slava Connection.

Give it a listen and leave feedback!

Slava – Sick Mix

So I was sick all of last week, spent a few days in bed, and of course listened to some uplifting trance to cheer myself up. Here is a mix I worked on with some of my favorite trance tunes over the years including a few newly released ones as well as some old ones. This is not like my Beat Connection series – the BPM starts at 136 and stays there pretty much the whole time! Enjoy.

Here it is… my latest mix, and I think my best thus far (I know this is only the 2nd I have posted on here but there have been others in the past). As per usual, I start in the world of progressive house, build it up to some techy trance tracks, and finish off strong with some massive trance tracks that I am enjoying lately.

This is a special mix because it features tracks by some of my favorite artists who have come/will be coming to LA in the near future: Ferry Corsten (Nocturnal), Armin van Buuren (Monster Massive), Sander Van Doorn (Vanguard/Code in Newport Beach), and John O’Callaghan (Monster Massive, LovEvolution). Also included in the mix are tracks by Empire of the Sun, Dave Spoon, Brian Cross, Jerome Isma-Ae, and others. Enjoy!
