My my my… big weekend coming up. If you’re not sure of where to go or need some suggestions, check out the calendar that Rob makes every month to your right –>. Otherwise, here’s my take on what’s big this weekend.

Saturday – Dusk til Doorn @ Avalon

Sander van Doorn Avalon

Dusk til Doorn @ Avalon 8/21

Well first and foremost I believe I have mentioned this enough times to make you sick but I am going to harp on it again for good reason (you’ll see why in a second). I am going to Dusk til Doorn with Sander van Doorn at the Avalon on Saturday. The set time is 12-5 and Sander will play 3 distinct sets – some house, some progressive, some trance. All tech baby. It’s gonna be sweet. It’s gonna be great. It’s gonna be unforgettable. (I should get paid to do this, shouldn’t I?)

Long story short I can’t wait because Sander is one of my favorite DJs and yet every time he seemed to play in LA I was unable to come. The only time it worked out was EDC and that was just a 90 minute taste. Now I get 5 hours. I am super stoked. Can’t wait to hear some of his tracks live such as my favorites – Bliksem, his remix of Take Me Away (a classic that he will hopefully play), Daddy Rock, etc. Hear another classic in the video below:

On top of that, I just found out that I won a contest and thus I will be having dinner with Sander before the show on Saturday! I will post the discussion from that night as well as some photos next week.

Saturday – The Love Festival

The Love Festival 2010 Los Angeles

The Love Festival 2010 Los Angeles

For those of you who just can’t get their rave cravings satisfied, there’s another big event going down this weekend at the LA Sports Arena. It’s put on by GoVentures so you know it’s going to be house heavy. In fact, there is almost nothing else on the lineup save for the huge outlier that is JOC. But that doesn’t mean there is no variety – within the genre of house there is so much difference that the sub-genres are almost becoming genres of their own, if that makes any sense.

The “Freedom of the Future” stage has some interesting players – Inpetto with progressive house, John O’Callaghan with 140 BPM intense trance (wonder how that transition is going to work out), good ol’ Swedish Egil, as well as GoVentures staple Cedric Gervais with some great house remixes in the past couple of years, Tom Novy and Micha Moor.

The other stage is a bit more interesting – “Party for the People”. That one’s got DJ Reza and Junior Sanchez (no surprises there) but it’s also bringing out Steve Angello’s brother AN21. If he’s half as good as Angello is, you know he’s gonna bring the ruckus. Also on the bill are Bad Boy Bill and Richard Vission doing an 8 deck duo session. I seriously don’t understand how any DJ could operate on 4 decks at one time but if they actually need 8 for any part of the performance it’s bound to be off the hook. Yes that’s a huge assumption but I say go with it. Mashing up even 4 dance records at once is hard enough…

Last but not least on that line up is Bass Kleph, a newcomer from Australia. He just recently had a breakout hit – his remix of Joan Reyes – Shakedown was #1 on the Beatport charts for quite some time. I will be honest – I was contacted by his publicist to mention him (for free; this is not sponsored in any way) but I can also be honest when I say I checked out his music and give him a full thumbs up. This guy definitely has some potential. A lot of groovy, bumpy house tracks that are going to sound great at The Love Festival tomorrow night. Be sure to check him out when he opens the main stage at 6 PM. Check out his website and MySpace.

Friday – Control @ Avalon w/ Don Diablo & Hatiras

Control at Avalon seems to be getting only bigger and bigger. Their website could use some updates but the events themselves aren’t lacking publicity – they just had Wolfgang Gartner last week and from what I saw in the videos, the place was more packed than ever. Lots of electro, lots of new stuff coming out on Fridays and this Friday is no different.

First up they got Don Diablo who plays electro and indie ghettotech stuff. Not exactly sure what those genres encompass but definitely sounds like some hard, grimy stuff that’s going to keep the feet at Avalon moving all night. More exciting is Hatiras, whom Rob and I got to see at Hands Up LA last year. He was playing to a nearly empty room but still dropping some legitimate, solid beats. He was playing some progressive, melodic house but at Control I would expect him to go a little harder and bring down the house with some electro and discotech house music.

More?

More! More you say! I must have techno 24/7! Well I can’t satisfy all your desires but I can tell you that there are plenty of Ibiza sets floating around from this summer that are phenomenal. Any taste can be satisfied. A simple Google search will do.

Otherwise, consult the calendar, consult facebook events, and get yourself out on the dancefloor.

Oh and be sure to look for me in the VIP section at Avalon on stand-by in case Sander needs a track mixed in ;) .
