I’m all about the fresh and new, but sometimes you just gotta recognize the beauty of the old school, and this weekend, the city of LA takes a step back into the bast (and a little bit into the future as well).

You’ve heard me write at length about Orbital, one of the UK’s seminal electronica acts responsible for anthems like “Halcyon” and “Chime”. If you missed their fantastic show at Coachella, now’s your chance for a little bit of redemption. Phil Hartnoll (1/2 of the duo) will be playing a very special DJ set at Marbella in Hollywood on Saturday night. God knows what Phil has up his sleeve for the night, but expect a smattering of old school breaks, British electronica, acid jazz/house/techno, and maybe an original track or two. Get your tickets here and give your ears a nice change of audio scenery.

The performance of the year is finally upon us. The motherfucking Chemical Brothers at the motherfucking Hollywood Bowl. This is a show I’ve been looking forward to since I saw their live set at Nocturnal Wonderland waaaaay back in 2007. These dudes have been keepin it real since the 80′s, rockin a sound that is unparalleled in its ability to both move feet on the dancefloor and tug on the ol heartstrings. I even had the pleasure of running into them on my flight from London to Barcelona back in June. I swear, they’re some of the nicest, down to earth guys at that level of notoriety that you’ll ever meet. The Brothers’ live show is one of the most complete, dazzling, immersive EDM arena acts you’ll ever see. Bolstered by elaborate visual storytelling, not many concert experiences will compare to this one.

Remaining tickets are a little sparse, but you should still manage to find a few over on Barry’s Tickets. I beg you, please attend this show. I’m not exaggerating when I say it’ll be on the same level as Daft Punk’s Alive tour. There might be no robot costumes or shiny pyramids, but the heart, soul and earth-shattering beats will all be there in spades. Come see 20+ years of compelling, psychedelic, musical exploration come to life at one of the best venues on earth.

Oh yeah, the Avalon. Rounding out the old school vibe will be Donald Glaude tonight and Felix Da Housecat tomorrow. Saturday is the Avalon’s 6-year anniversary, but other than that, nothing really too special.

Lastly, I suggest you all head over to the Vanguard tonight to check out hip-hop/electro crossover act Flossstradamus. My buddy Rej “Funkthefresh” Dhingra will be holding things down on the patio. RSVP here!

Have a good weekend, Chemical Brothers and Sisters…
