Electric Daisy Carnival 2010

Not sure if this post really needs to be written, because we in Los Angeles all know that EDC is going to rock the house no matter what, but I figured I’d get people pumped up for this weekend. Here we go with ten extremely legitimate reasons to look forward to this Friday and Saturday…

1. THE DJS LOVE IT – According to the interviews in the DJ Mag top 100 DJ poll last year, 9 out of the top 100 DJs chose a Los Angeles gig as their top gig of 2009. And 3 of those chose EDC. Above and Beyond has said that EDC 2007 was the gig that made that year and really catapulted their careers (and they are back this year); Armin van Buuren chose, out of all the places in the world, to play for 9 hours on New Year’s Eve in 2009 at TAO, and Will.i.Am has only played at an electronic event once before – Miami’s Ultra. There is clear evidence of DJs vying to play in Los Angeles year round, with EDC being the pinnacle of electronic events in the area. This is the big one. The DJs know they better get ready to impress.

2. IT’S THE BEST OF THE WEST – Sure, Miami had Ultra, which was a 2 day event with a lot of big names. So the US does have one or two contenders. However on the west coast, there is simply no other event with such a draw. 2 days, 2 main stages, and more headline names than you can shake a glow-stick at. We’ve got Moby, Kaskade, Armin van Buuren, Swedish House Mafia, Deadmau5, and plenty of other big names from various genres. What other event on the west coast can even come close to that?

3. IT’S SUMMER AND IT’S OUTDOORS – What better time to have an event than in the summer? Many events during winter result in freezing conditions where you have to stay in the middle of the dancefloor just to maintain a reasonable body temperature. Plus, let’s not forget that we are in Los Angeles folks, the city that has perfect weather about 9/12 months of the year. Why would you want to be cooped up inside

4. THERE’S GONNA BE A S%@TLOAD OF PEOPLE – Anything is cooler when everyone else is doing it. And trust me, this weekend, everyone else will be doing it. From ravers to euros, from hipsters to hippies, from fatties to shorties, there will be a huge variety of people getting their groove on at EDC. Last year there was a reported 90,000 attendance on Saturday, and this year I am thinking it might go up due to the double main-stage action. Attendance will also certainly increase on Friday due to the pull of Deadmau5, Swedish House Mafia, and Moby.

5. CARNIVAL RIDES – Take a look at the map. Umm a rollercoaster? I’ll take it.

6. SPECIALIZED STAGES – Looks like the promoters have taken a note from Coachella and made some specialized stages this year. This widens the crowd to not only “ravers” who don’t care or have any idea about who is playing to people actually there to see some favorite artists from a particular genre. Case in point – Neon Garden is 100% Trance on Saturday, and Cosmic Meadow is basically all electro all the time. HARD events may or may not be trembling in their boots.

7. LOTS AND LOTS OF GOOD MUSIC – That’s why most of us are going… right? Here’s some boobtubes of past epic moments from 2007, 2008, and 2009.
