Typical Inhabitants of Orange County
Well, as the California scene (and electronic music in general) continues to grow and gain a huge following, promoters in California are slowly putting dots on the map that allow DJs to do a huge tour of the Golden State alone, starting in San Diego and ending in Sacramento. Any more north and that’s hippie county… they don’t take kindly to electronic bleeps up there. Unless the bleeps are coming from someone with dreadlocks, bare feet, home-grown vegetables, and a joint.
But enough mocking of Humboldt county. What I’m really here to talk about is that electronic music is not only spreading down to San Diego, but to the giant suburb of Los Angeles county that is Orange County. First it was only Giant that had a couple of nights there, but now LMD as well as other promoters are getting in on it as well. Here are just a few of the DJs coming up in Orange County:
- Paolo Mojo @ Sutra – Thursday, April 1st (Giant)
- George Acosta @ Shark Club – Thursday, April 2nd (Love, Music, Dance)
- Sharam @ Sutra – Thursday, April 8th (Giant)
- Sander van Doorn @ Sutra – Thursday, April 15th (Giant) I would personally like to thank Giant for putting on a DJ that I REALLY want to see the day before Coachella. Genius move. Looks like I’ll miss him again. Hopefully Sander gets a spot at EDC this year, although it’s not super likely seeing as how he just played at Beyond Wonderland. But if Paul van Dyk can do it so can he.
So what is the situation in LA/Southern Cali now:
Thursday and Friday nights in Orange County by 2 promoters (LMD, Giant)
Saturday nights in Los Angeles by 3 promoters (LMD, Insomniac, Giant)
Friday nights in Los Angeles by 1 promoter (Giant)
Thursday nights in Los Angeles by 1 promoter (LMD)
Monday nights in Los Angeles by yet another promoter (Monday Night Social)
Huge festivals and raves almost every weekend by all promoters
Friday and Saturday nights in San Diego by 2 promoters (Starry Eyed Music, Giant)
And I’m sure I left some out. If you’re a fan of electronic music, and you have money to spend… you’re officially in the El Dorado, Shangri La, and Atlantis of electronic music. The Mecca, Jerusalem, and Salt Lake City, if you will (think I’m exaggerating? You’re wrong.) Odds are your favorite DJ is coming to the states within the next few months. If not, there’s always Ibiza. But when Ibiza’s not in session (and neither is WMC), looks like LA is the place to be. Hence the existence of this blog, all the fans, and all the good times.
Til next time! Rob just alerted me to this new Prydz tune. What an awesome track! Cheers to Pete Tong.
