Thee-O – Live at Giant (08/22/09) by Thee-O
Hit play on that mix while you read. It will enhance the experience.
Our latest guest mix comes from a name that should sound familiar. Thee-O (real name Jacob Ofilas) has been in the EDM scene since 1992 and I have seen his name pop up on countless flyers and rosters for events around California. His style is tech house and techno and he has recently started a brand called Viva La Tech – check out what that group has in store on MySpace. Thee-o will also be hosting a radio show for Viva La Tech which plays every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month on DI.FM.
If anyone has seen the faces come and go in the rave/dance scene, it’s gotta be Thee-O. He has seen the scene rise from warehouse parties to coliseums and here is what he responded to our inquiry about the dance scene in LA:
I have seen the ups and downs of the scene over the years. Things are encouraging in Los Angeles. I love the underground vibe that we can still have here despite having some of the largest events in the nation. Our scene is separated by genres and age groups but there are times and events that we all can get down to.
True that. Thee-O has released numerous productions and remixes, some through his own Biohazard label, and is also the owner of Biohazard studios in Los Angeles. He’s also into trying out new technology – one of his latest mixes was made on a Pacemaker unit. Thee-O has played at huge festivals such as Monster Massive, EDC, you name it. He has done smaller underground events in every place imaginable, and has graced the clubs around Los Angeles including Vanguard, Avalon, Circus, King King, etc. You can see him doing his thing at Vanguard this Saturday when he opens for Robbie Riviera.
As fans of the continuously growing and evolving dance scene we should always be mindful and respectful to those who built the foundation for what we are seeing now, working underground to bring the music to the masses well before before Armin and Tiesto were selling out stadiums around the world. Thee-O is one of those people and he continues to develop his sound and make events in LA enjoyable 17 years later. Very impressive!
Enjoy the music guys and big thanks to Thee-O for submitting the mix.
