Southern California residents got to experience something very strange this week: cold weather. Crazy, right? What the fuck is ‘cold weather’? Blazing sun and intolerable humidity have been replaced by morning cold spells and gusty winds. Fortunately, we seem to be handling it with grace, silent courage, and ease. In fact, it’s a welcome change from the 100 degree weather that many (or maybe it’s just me?) would describe as the “bane of their existence”. So bring on the heat lamps and hot chocolate. Change is good!
Some late morning tidbits for interested minds:
<> LovEvolution was a massive success, drawing around 100,000 dancing maniacs to partake in the festivities, making it the largest installment yet. I will not make the mistake of missing this amazing event in 2010. Feel the love!
<> SoCal residents unable to make the trip up north were treated with an excellent consolation prize: an absolutely bonkers night at the Avalon courtesy of Steve Angello. Steve made some lofty claims about his new home, proudly stating that Los Angeles was the best city in the world on multiple occasions. What do you guys think: shameless pandering to get the crowd pumped, or honest insight from one of the world’s most well-travelled DJs?
<> Up next on the LA massives circuit are HARD Haunted Mansion and Monster Massive, which take place on 10/30+10/31 and 10/31, respectively. Dance music enthusiasts can make a stress-free decision to see Deadmau5, 2ManyDJs, A-Trak, and friends on Friday night, but are faced with a very tough choice regarding how to spend Halloween. Justice/Basement Jaxx/Crookers/Modeselektor/Major Lazer or Sasha/Armin/Steve Lawler/M.A.N.D.Y./Pete Tong? Two distinct schools of electronic music, one very tough decision. We’ll have an in-depth preview as the weekend draws closer, but I guess you just have to ask yourself…where’s your head at?
<> Speaking of HARD, Gary Richards brings his festival series to New York City this Saturday with HARD NYC, which will take place at the world-renowned Terminal 5 venue. Crookers, Major Lazer, and Rusko are among the DJs on the bill for the night. Between this and Electric Zoo, it appears that new life is being breathed into the NYC dance scene. Viva la revolucion!
<> Definitely off-topic, but the season finale of Entourage on Sunday night was excellent, making up for an otherwise weak season. Among other things, it proved that you can’t go wrong with a Matt Damon cameo.
Oh yeah, I’m gonna record a new mix this week, I promise. I’m thinking it’ll be more dancefloor oriented. So have a good week and enjoy the cold weather!
