On October 22nd my girlfriend and I drove down to see Sander Van Doorn play at Club Code in Newport Beach. I made all the right moves. I went to Giant’s website and RSVP’ed to be on the list to get in for free. I brought cash and got directions. I put on some nice clothes – black shoes, nice shirt, the works. We got there with no traffic. Parking was free. I was ready to go.
Unfortunately after arriving at 10:30 pm, we quickly realized we were not going to get in. The club was already almost at capacity at that point and they were only letting in people who had table service or tickets. We were out of luck. See that line going off to the right of the photo? After not moving for 30 minutes we ended up driving back.
The lesson? Show up ahead of time. If you’re going to Club Code, looks like you better get there before 10 or else you’re screwed.There seemed to be a good, young crowd – UC Irvine students, etc. Not too much shady activitiy, well dressed people, etc. It seemed like a good place to check out… another time.
To make up for it, I am making plans to go to Dusk Till Doorn at the Vanguard on Halloween night. Most people will either be at Monster Massive or Hard Halloween but that means more dancing room for me!
As far as club Code, it looked nice from the outside. I will do a full report the next time I go back, possibly for Eddie Halliwell on December 3rd.
